A variety of options are available to MRHS music students to help pay for the activities and programs of our music department. Several of the fundraisers benefit the music department as a whole wherein the proceeds go into the general fund to cover expenses such as instument repair and replacement; specialized uniforms such as madrigals costumes, women's ensemble dresses, marching band uniforms, jazz vests, etc; music awards and recognition; music costs, equipment, and other capital expenses, etc.
The Patron Program, the Mustang Flea Market and the Online Auction and Live Auction Event planned for Fall of 2009 are the general fundraising events. Profits from Cash Card Sales (Giant and Weis) and the fall Yankee Candle Sale go directly into individual student accounts. The student accounts are managed and kept to cover expenses such as the annual Spring Trip, certain ensemble fees (marching band, madrigals, women's ensemble), and concert attire purchases.
The monthly Citrus Sales in November through February benefit both the general Music Foundation budget as well as individual student accounts.
Fundraising is not mandatory. However, these many opportunities are offered to help reduce each family's out-of-pocket expenses, while giving students ownership and responsibility to fund their trip and other expenses. Working the fundraisers is great fun and builds great community, too!
